I had a personal info leak recently, and while I'm fairly certain it wasn't from my flist I'm still skittish as hell, so I'm unlikely to friend people (back.) It's nothing personal, I'm just nervous and going through some bad shit at the moment.

Join us in standing up for reproductive health and education. Planned Parenthood, the organization that delivers reproductive health care, sex education and information to millions of people worldwide, has come under fire in the U.S. lately, with many politicians on both state and federal level seeking to end funding (and in a few cases succeeding).

During the month of May, you can send a specially designed Planned Parenthood vgift to your friends to help support this cause. (And if you need someone to send it to, frank is always happy to receive gifts!) There are three variations ($1, $5 and $10) for you to choose from, but they'd all look good on your profile when your friends know that you stand by something so important.

Thank you all for your help in our support for Planned Parenthood. This promotion ends June 1, 2012; LiveJournal is not affiliated with Parent Parenthood. For more information about Planned Parenthood, please visit: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/

I know we don't always like lj's staff, but this is good good good. I plan on sending some out after I get paid, so don't be super-shocked if you get one.

I haven't been passing the Black March posts on, either on my tumblr or here, because something about it bothered me. My first thought was for independant book shops, and for the tiny cinemas that survive by showing indie films, and how the big chains etc. have the resources to survive March where these smaller companies simply don't. The recession has already emptied their pockets, this could kill them, and that only makes us even more dependant on the sodding mega-chains and uber-corporations that think they can throw their weight around like this already. But I didn't exactly have any better suggestions on how to balance sending a message against 'think of the little guy'.

Then a post came across my tumblr dash that coalesced those feelings a bit, so basically that's what I'm going to be doing this March instead of a full boycott. Go straight to the independents (my main worry about how do-able this is is the shells that the big companies set up to look like smaller, indie brands and get people's money anyway, but this is the internet, and if there's anywhere that info will be available it's on here.) Buy small press books through independent book shops (I know I'm lucky to still have one, but I think that puts even more on me to make the effort), see independent films, buy self-published music.

Call me optimistic, but I do think this message can be sent without screwing over the people who've already said "FUCK YOU, I DO WHAT I WANT!" to Hollywood and the big corporate forces, and I don't want those independant producers and distributers to be fighting on two fronts for the duration of March.

After the day I've had (do not get me started) I'm not sure if I'll be online tomorrow, and I have a lot of family stuff over Christmas. Therefore I'm going to do this early:

Cut because it's bigger than I expected.Collapse )

I know I haven't been around much recently, and that's likely to get worse before it gets better. I'm only really responding to links or what I come across in short intervals (Richard's asleep at the moment so I have a bit longer to post.)

Hope everyone's okay, and having a significantly better time than I am.

Okay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media.

Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.

Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing.

Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states.

What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it.

The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute.

So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it.

If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.

What to do?

- Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it.

- If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link.

- You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this.

- Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness.

I need to stop reading borderline/outright triggery shit or I'm going to end up in another episode. I stayed off the internet for a while, came back and got hit again.

FFS, self, most of it's labelled, have some goddamn control.

There's a nasty computer virus on the rounds and I appear to have picked it up. It looks almost exactly like an automatic windows update, which is how I fell for it. I figured if I gave y'all a heads up then anyone using windows would know to watch out for it.

Might be offline for a while, my netbook is currently a paperweight and my pain levels aren't good enough for extended periods at a desk so unless something works out soon internet browsing will need to be done from my phone, which gives me a killer headache. I am unamused by this bullshit. >:(

Hope you're all having a better day. ♥

Looking at my PM box it seeems like someone told people I was in hospital. Oops, they shouldn't have done that, but thank you for well wishes. No but seriously I'm completely fine, it was a pissy little case of the flu I came down with on Boxing Day but my meds complicated things massively, and I really hope nobody was worried. I got out this afternoon and am on strict instructions to rest (maybe shouldn't have checked ffr because now I want to bash heads but oh well I'm going to bed now fuck it) and keep warm and I have a diet sheet to follow and all my meds are changed up so expect random extreme wooginess. But apart from that I just have the most irritating phlegmy cough you ever heard. Srsly, it's awful. Oh and a headache. And I'm really tired. Also I had to stop wearing my charcoal bathrobe while I was in there because I'm currently so skeletal that when I went wandering people thought I was the grim reaper (you think I'm kidding) however after the med change I'm hungry for like the first time in months and you have no idea how amazing it feels. And Richard's looking after me, he's even managed to cook without burning the kitchen down. Rosie sulked at me for about fifteen minutes and then glommed onto the back of my neck like a live stole and will. not. get. off. lol. Daft cat. It's nice though, I was so cold on the ward and she's like a live hot water bottle. Now I just need to get her to stop lying on my chest because I can't breathe when she does that.

I hope everyone had good holidays. :)

LOL, I'm feeling a little lost as to what to say.

Oh, to the anon who gave me the paid account with the lovely message for Christmas, if you read this then thank you very, very much. I hope I manage to keep things up and don't disappoint you (I'll try my hardest.) Yes I got all emotional over your message, so sue me. ♥ ♥ ♥

Anyway, I'm going to go to bed now because I'm completely wrecked. I figured I could handle internet (guess who napped all afternoon and woke up at 11:30 pm all 'bzuh?' and then couldn't sleep) but it's more tiring than I thought it would be.

I realise I've gone a bit quiet with no explanation, well I got roped into NaNoWriMo because my bff 'needed moral support'. Of course Mr. I Need Moral Support has just passed the 20k mark while I'm staring at 8k and whimpering a lot. Bastard.

I'm rewriting fairytales in different genres, which I know isn't exactly new or imaginative, but it's fun and I had to come up with an idea at 2 pm on Nov. 1st. So far Cinderella is Detective Noir, and Red Riding Hood is Science Fiction.

In other news, I'm now a red-head! :D It was a snap decision, but I think it suits me. Of course my family is even more convinced that I'm having some sort of midlife crisis, but anyway. I have red hair and I bought some more make up (treated myself to Urban Decay's Black palette because I can use them as eyeliner - I'm mostly sticking to guyliner and a smoky eye rather than going the full hog) and I'm happily experimenting.

Okay, back to the word count. UUUUUURGH.

Okay, so Richard's just informed me (literally on the way to the airport) that although the place we're staying at is advertised as having internet access someone who's been before told him that it's intermittent at best and ridiculously slow. So if you don't hear from me for a couple of weeks you know why. I guess it means I'll get some serious novel reading done. XD

I think I've got everything; I keep having those quiet little panicky moments wondering if I left the gas on, or whether I've got my med certifications, or my chargers. With any luck I'll spend most of the journey asleep.

Hope everyone has a good time, take care of yourselves, and I'll talk to you when I talk to you. ♥

I'm messing with my meds. Things shouldn't get too weird because I'm being careful, but I figured I should mention it just in case (preliminary results: my concentration has gone to shit and scrolling down my friends page is giving me awful motion sickness - that doesn't exactly help with the nausea, let me tell you internets.)

Commenting is switched off because, honestly, as soon as I've caught up on my inbox and flist I think I need to lie down. Hope everyone's having a good day. ♥

These things always seem to happen when I'm exhausted and/or can't think straight (though, to be fair, that's pretty often these days.)

Some people may have heard about the new racefail in SPN fandom; maybe because they're in that specific fandom, maybe because they're in the more aware parts of fandom at large.
